Men's and Women's Tennis Set to Battle for MIAA Ti

Two MIAA titles will be on the line this weekend as the Maverick men's and women's tennis teams play in the MIAA Championship Tournament at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo., Saturday and Sunday.

The women (9-9, 6-2 MIAA) are in a three-way tie for second place in the MIAA and they won't know their seeding until a draw at the pretournament meeting. They are tied with Truman and Northwest Missouri with a 6-2 MIAA record.
All women's first round duals will be played at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and second round duals will be at 6:30 that night. The championship match and three other consolation finals will be Sunday at 9 a.m.
The men (8-8, 0-5 MIAA) are seeded sixth in the tournament and will play No. 3 Southwest Baptist at 10 a.m. Saturday. Regardless of their result, they will then play at 4 p.m. in a second round dual. The championship and third-place duals will be Sunday at 9 a.m.
Kelsie Olson leads UNO in singles wins with 15 and she went 7-1 in the MIAA with most of her matches coming at No. 5 or No. 6 singles. Rachel Faulk plays No. 1 singles for the Mavs and has gone 11-7 this year, 6-1 in the MIAA and 10-5 during duals at No. 1 singles.
The doubles team of Faulk and Traci Moklestad is 11-4 overall this year and 8-0 in the MIAA.
Chase Petersen leads the men's team with 10 wins but he is winless in MIAA matches. Marcus Hansen and Matt Frost have UNO's only two singles wins in MIAA duals this year.
The men's team is in its first year of existence and both teams are playing in their first MIAA tournament after UNO moved to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association this year. The women's team won three North Central Conference tournaments, the last coming in 2007, in its eight years playing in the NCC.
