Shires Signs Norfolk HS Defensive Specialist to NL

OMAHA, Neb. – Nebraska-Omaha volleyball coach Rose Shires announced Wednesday that Norfolk High School senior Amy Roberts has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UNO and play volleyball for the Mavericks this fall. The all-state player will compete for a defensive spot at UNO.
Roberts was named honorable mention all-state by the Lincoln Journal-Star her junior year and she earned GNAC all-conference honors her first three years. She also played basketball and ran track for the Panthers. She also excelled in the classroom as a member of the GNAC all-academic team, the National Honor Society and her school's honor roll.

“Amy is an incredible defensive player who will add to our strength in the back row,” Shires said. “She's another great find from Norfolk and I'm excited to see her on the court.”
The Mavericks went 16-16 last year and played in the first round of the South Central Region tournament. They went 12-8 in the MIAA to finish sixth. Shires loses just one senior to graduation and all six primary starters will return.
Roberts is the first newcomer to sign with UNO this year.
