Mavericks Announce Award Winners at Hockey Banquet

OMAHA, Neb. – Six members of the UNO hockey team received postseason honors at the team's annual year-end awards banquet. Captain #Mark Bernier# led the way, receiving two awards at the banquet held at the Thompson Alumni Center on the UNO campus on Saturday, April 4.
Bernier was the recipient of the Most Consistent Player Award and the Mike Rehmeier Biggest Heart Award. The first award goes to the player with the best +/- rating for the season while the second award goes to the player who sets the best example of work ethic and dedication to the team. Bernier, a native of South St. Paul, Minn. was named the Mavericks' captain at the start of the 2008-09 season.
Defenseman #Eddie DelGrosso# was named the Mavericks' Most Valuable Player. He led the Mavs in scoring with six goals and 28 assists for 34 points. He was named to the All-CCHA second team and was named league player of the week three times.
Maverick blueliners were well honored during the event. Defenseman #Pasko Skarica# was named UNO's Most Improved Player in a vote of his teammates. Skarica had five assists in 33 games for the Mavs in 2008-09.
Freshman #John Kemp# was named the Panera Bread Newcomer of the Year. Kemp finished sixth in team scoring with two goals and 20 assists for 22 points. His assist total ranked second on the team behind only DelGrosso.
Goaltender #Jeremie Dupont# was the Mavs' Student-Athlete Award winner. It is the second straight year he has won the award. Dupont was also a member of the CCHA All-Academic team.
Junior forward #Jeric Agosta# won the Seventh Man Award, given to the player who best exemplifies team spirit, attitude, citizenship and the ability to overcome adversity. Agosta finished the season with four goals and four assists while playing in 38 of 40 games for the Mavericks.
