UNO Track Heads To MIAA Championship
May 1, 2009 | General, Track & Field
OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO track and field team will square off against the rest of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in the league outdoor championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, at Missouri Southern State University. The Mavericks are the defending indoor champions.
UNO will look to score a majority of its points on the track. Even without All-Americans #Molly Belling and Pinar Saka#, the Mavericks are deep, especially in the sprints. Fresh off her win in the MIAA heptathlon championship last weekend, junior #Shannon Moore# will compete in the 100 meter hurdles and the 400 and 200 meter dashes. She'll have good company from teammate #Kayla Koepke# who will run both the 400 and 200. #Maja Mihalinec# will join that duo in the 200 and run the 100 meter dash. #Anja Puc# will be a threat to finish in front in the 800 meter run.
Koepke, Puc, Moore and Mihalinec will team up in the 4 x 400 meter relay while Koepke, Puc, Mihalinec and #Jody-Ann Coore# will combine for the 4 x 100 meter relay. Both teams could finish at or near the top.
In the field, #Heather Minssen# will attempt to build on her national ranking in the shot put. She's sixth overall with a personal best throw of 46 feet, six and a quarter inches. #Rasheema Pitt#, #Kelly Hollman and Ashley Yates# will all look to score points in the triple jump.
Saturday's action begins at 1 p.m. with the field events. On Sunday, field events again begin the day at 12 p.m.
