Mavericks Heading for 5th Straight NCAA Tournament

The UNO Mavericks will make its 5th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Region. The Mavs will open the tournament on Thursday, May 14 at 3:30 p.m. when they face off against No. 2 seeded Abilene Christian University. The Mavs finished the regular season ranked 27th in the nation with a record of 40-18.
The top seeded University of Central Missouri (41-13) will host the double-elimination tournament.
There will be a total of four rounds in the tournament starting on Thursday, May 14 and ending on Sunday, May 17 with the championship game.

The Coaches
#Bob Herold# is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 340-202-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by #Chris Gadsden# (10th Season) and Dan McGinn (9th Season).

Hitting
#Drew Schwab# moved into the lead in team batting average last week, at .419. #Andrew Hansen# leads the team in doubles with 33, shattering the old single season record of 20 set by Justin Cook and Dan Persons in 2002. Hansen also leads the team in runs (62), and hits (91). #Evan Porter# is the team leader in runs batted in with 60 and home-runs with ten on the season. Porter is UNO's career home-run leader with 43.
Pitching
#Ben Percival leads the team in wins with a record of 10-3 while Joe Holtmeyer# is the team leader in strike-outs with 77. #Brandon Dahl# is the team leader in saves with four. #Chris Kessinger# is the team leader in earned run average with a 3.14 era.
All-Time Records
The Mavericks have had several single season, and career records set this season. Andrew Hansen continues to lead the nation in doubles on the year while setting a single-season record for UNO with 33 on the season. Brandon Dahl moved into a tie for third place on the Mavs career saves record. He now has 11 in his career. With 15 career sacrifice flies, #Mat Eikmeier# has moved into a tie for first place. Ben Percival set several single season records in his first year with the Mavericks. He is now the record holder for most innings pitched (97.2), most batters faced (393), most ground outs (102) and most fly outs in a season (105).
Evan Porter continued to set records in his senior season at UNO and is now the leader in most hitting categories. Porter started out the year by setting the career record for total bases (518). Porter also surpassed the single season mark for doubles, hitting 21 on the year which is good for the 2nd best mark in a single season. Evan is tied with Eikmeier for career sacrifice flies with 15. Porter moved into first place for career games played (236), started (236), at bats (857), hits (316), and doubles (73). He also moved into first place in career home-runs with 43. He set the record while helping UNO win its first ever MIAA postseason tournament championship on Sunday, May 10.
South Central Region Opponents
The Mavericks will be facing off with 5 opponents in the tournament, two from the MIAA conference.
UNO will face second seededAbilene Christian for the first time on the season on Thursday. Abilene finished the regular season with a record of 43-17 and is currently ranked 9th in the nation. The Mavericks are 0-2 all-time against the Wildcats.
