Mavericks Tie For Third at MIAA Track Championship

Final Results
JOPLIN, Mo. – UNO tied with Central Missouri for third place in the 2009 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association outdoor track and field championship on Sunday afternoon. The Mavericks scored 72 points in the final day of competition to race past three teams and into the top three.
The Mavericks and Jennies both finished with 97 points. Host Missouri Southern, a perennial power in track and field, won the MIAA title with 149 points. Truman State finished in second with 124.
As expected, UNO earned a vast majority of its points on Sunday on the track. #Maja Mihalinec# took first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.25. She led a 3-4-5 finish by the Mavs in the 200 with a time of 25.10. #Kayla Koepke# was fourth at 25.29, and #Shannon Moore# finished fifth at 25.43.
Moore had another busy day of competition. She also finished second in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.58 and was third in the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.80.
#Anja Puc# earned UNO's other individual first place finish when she won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:11.76.
The Mavericks took home first place in the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 47.95. Their 4 x 400 relay team, competing together for the first time, ran a remarkable 3:57.36 to finish in fourth place.
In the field, #Rasheema Pitt# earned fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, seven and three-quarter inches.
The final results of the meet included points earned in several finals on Saturday and by athletes in last week's league heptathlon championships. Moore won the event with 5,061, the best mark in the MIAA this season.
The Mavericks will take part in the Ward Haylett Invite held at Kansas State next Saturday, May 9 before readying for the NCAA Division II national championship meet in San Angelo, Texas on May 21-23.
