UNO Reachs MIAA Championship Game with Win Over Li

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The UNO baseball team got a two-hit, complete game from #Ben Percival# to shut out the Missouri Southern Lions 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks are now one win shy of winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship.
UNO will play the Central Missouri Mules who advanced to the winners' bracket by beating Missouri Southern, 4-1. The Mavericks will need to win just one game while the Mules will have to beat UNO twice to earn the MIAA title.
The game featured a pitchers' duel between Percival and Southern's Garrett Groom who combined to throw 201 pitches, 139 of them strikes. The nine-inning game lasted just one hour and 38 minutes.
The Mavericks got the only runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning. #Andrew Hansen#, who set an MIAA record with 30 doubles during the regular season, led off the inning with a double and scored when #Evan Porter# blasted a home run to left field. In the process, Porter set a school record for most career home runs (42).
UNO got two more in the bottom of the fifth when #Jeremy Klein# hit an RBI double, and #Drew Schwab# had a run-scoring single.
Percival improves to 10-3 on the year. He struck out six while walking just one batter. Groom was a tough-luck loser. He allowed only six UNO hits and gave up only two earned runs while striking out four and walking one.
