Kessinger Latest Maverick Taken In MLB Draft

SECAUCUS, N.J. - Pitcher #Chris Kessinger# is the latest UNO player with a chance to play professional baseball after he was drafted in the 37th round by the Seattle Mariners on the final day of the Major League Baseball entry draft. Shortstop #Evan Porter# was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday.
Kessinger led the Mavericks in earned run average, posting a 3.02 during 14 starts last season. He finished with a record of 9-4 while pitching more than 86 innings. He was second on the team in both wins and innings pitched. He led the team with 82 strikeouts.
The native of Sioux Falls, S.D. finished fifth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in ERA and tied for third in wins.
Porter went to the World Champion Phillies on Wednesday in the 23rd round, 707th overall.
