Meet The Mavericks - Jessica Zaruba
Aug 19, 2009 | Women's Basketball
Jessica Zaruba has been forced to overcome some adversity on the court as of late but is doing everything she can to prepare herself and make sure she is ready to take the next step into the game of college basketball. Zaruba will be joining the Mavericks next week as she becomes a part of the UNO women's basketball team. She was asked some questions so we could get to know a little more about her before she hits the hardwood this fall.
Q: What is the main reason you chose to become a UNO Maverick?
A: I liked the team and the coaches and it just felt right!
Q: What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
A: I'm excited to experience college basketball and to get to know my teammates and become a better player.
Q: What is the most recent book you have read? Was it for pleasure or school?
A: Michael Phelps: The Will to Succeed, for pleasure
Q: What is your favorite restaurant/favorite type of food?
A: I don't have a favorite restaurant and I'll eat pretty much anything but Italian is my favorite.
Q: Tell us something interesting about yourself.
A: Haha, ummmm, I want to be in the Olympics!
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time/what are your hobbies?
A: I like to do some extreme biking and motocross along with skateboarding and water polo. Just kidding! I like to hang out with my friends, go for bike rides, workout, go to the pool/lake, camp, rollerblade, and that's all I can think of.
Q: What is your favorite sport (other than basketball of course!)
A: Soccer
Q: Where in the world would you most like to travel if you could go anywhere?
A: Ohh that's a tough one! Probably somewhere in Europe or just somewhere warm like Mexico.
"Meet The Mavs" is a continuing series of profiles of incoming UNO women's basketball players written by Mavericks' assistant coach Karen Thies, herself a former UNO player.
