OMAHA, Neb. – UNO hockey aims to make history on Friday, Feb. 5 as the Mavericks plan to sell every seat at Qwest Center Omaha for the first time in their history. On that night, the Mavericks will host the Ohio State Buckeyes in an important Central Collegiate Hockey Association game.
“This is an exciting opportunity to create yet another milestone for our hockey program,” said #Trev Alberts#, UNO's Director of Athletics. “With 'Sell Out Ohio State', our fans have an opportunity to be a part of a special event in the history of both Maverick hockey and athletics in the city of Omaha.
“A capacity crowd at the Qwest Center will give us a home ice advantage like none we've ever had before, and it is sure to put UNO squarely in the consciousness of all college hockey fans.”
At 15,907 seats, the Qwest Center is the second-largest college hockey venue in the country behind only Ohio State's Value City Arena at 17,500. Should the Mavericks “Sell Out Ohio State,” it will be the largest indoor crowd to see a hockey game in the country this season.
Ironically, the largest crowd ever to witness a UNO home hockey game came on Feb. 9, 2008 against Ohio State when 10,598 fans saw the Mavericks beat the Buckeyes, 5-2.
As part of the event, current UNO associate athletic director and former head hockey coach Mike Kemp will be recognized during the first intermission for his induction into the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame. The formal induction will take place earlier in the day during the Blue Line Club luncheon at Anthony's at 72nd and F Streets. The event begins at 11:30 a.m.
In an effort to “Sell Out Ohio State” the UNO ticket office will be unveiling many unique promotions. The Maverick Athletic Department has launched a special website, selloutohiostate.com, to help fans purchase tickets easily without Ticketmaster fees, and track the available tickets during the next few weeks. In addition, Cox customers will receive a special $12 rate by showing their monthly bill at the time of purchase.
Beginning February 2nd at 9 a.m., the Sapp Field House box office on the UNO campus will be open for an unprecedented 33 straight hours to accommodate those night owls who want to purchase their tickets. As a special incentive to buy tickets on that day, patrons will have the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets based on the time of the buy. For example, if a fan were to purchase tickets at the Sapp Field House on February 3rd at 1 a.m., they would pay $1 per upper bowl ticket to the game.
