Olimb Nabs WCHA Weekly Award

MADISON Wis. - UNO defenseman #Eric Olimb# has been named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He is the second Maverick to earn the award and the third UNO player to earn a weekly honor.
A senior from Warroad, Minn., Olimb notched four assists last weekend, earned a +4 plus/minus rating, blocked five shots and fired four shots on goal to help visiting UNO register 5-4 and 4-2 WCHA victories over Minnesota at Mariucci Arena.
Last Friday (Oct. 15), Olimb assisted on the first goal of the game and then picked up another helper on teammate #Alex Hudson#'s game-winning goal at 18:34 of the third period in UNO's win. The next night (Oct. 16), Olimb once again assisted on the game's first goal and on the final goal of the game in another Mavericks victory. His +4 rating tied him with two other players for the team lead on the weekend. Olimb has now registered points in each of the Mavericks' four games this season with six assists total.
Last week, UNO goalie #John Faulkner earned the same award while freshman Matt White# was named the WCHA's Co-Rookie of the Week.
The Mavericks step outside of conference action to visit Michigan on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23. Game time each night is 6:35 p.m. CT.
