Three Mavericks Earn NFCA Student-Athlete Award

NFCA Student-Athlete Award Winners (By School)

Three UNO softball players were selected for the NFCA Girls Got Game Scholar-Athlete Award, it was recently announced by the NFCA. Sophomore infielder #Molly Negrete and former Mavericks Kristin Wellwood and Treightin Yates# were all named to the list for their achievements in the classroom for the 2009-10 academic year.

Negrete is majoring in elementary education and boasts a 3.70 GPA, while Wellwood carries a 3.40 mark in physical education. Yates earned her bachelor's degree in criminal justice in August 2010 with a 3.36 GPA.

Yates and Wellwood were both two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll selections, while Negrete was also tabbed for the 2009-10 league's academic honor as a freshman.

Student-athletes who achieve a 3.5 or higher grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) are recognized as NFCA Scholar-Athletes. The NFCA also recognizes the top 10 academic teams by overall GPA each fall through its Academic Top 10 program.
