UNO Selected Eighth in MIAA Preseason Women's Bask

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO women's basketball team was picked to finish eighth by both coaches and media in the MIAA's preseason polls announced by the league office on Wednesday.
The Mavericks, who went 12-15 (7-13 MIAA) a year ago, earned 43 points in the coaches poll and 66 from the media list.
The 12 conference coaches selected defending national champion Washburn as their preseason favorite, while media voters had the Lady Blues and Emporia State tied for their top choice.
UNO will play its third year as a member of the MIAA in 2010-11, and the Mavericks return six letterwinners from last year's squad, including three starters. Head coach Patty Patton Shearer begins her seventh year at the helm of the Maverick program with a career record of 154-125.
Nebraska-Omaha opens the season on Friday, Nov. 12, hosting York College at Sapp Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m.
