Mavs Host Missouri Southern Thursday at 3 p.m.

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team (7-7-1, 7-5-1 MIAA) plays two games this week, beginning with the team's final regular season home matchup against Missouri Southern on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m.
The team then will travel to Maryville, Mo. on Saturday, Oct. 30 for a 11:30 a.m. road contest against Northwest Missouri State.
The Standings
Trailing only Central Missouri and Truman State in the MIAA standings, UNO has split its last two games in an effort to reach postseason contention. UNO will now face three straight conference opponents to end the regular season, including two games on the road.
MIAA No. 1 Central Missouri continues to rise above the competition, compiling an undefeated record so far this season. Truman has won three of its last four games and currently sits at No. 2 in the MIAA standings with a 8-2-5 overall record and a 7-1-5 mark against MIAA opponents.
The Series
UNO is a perfect 11-0-0 all-time against Missouri Southern. The Mavericks swept the series last year, defeating MSSU, 2-0, in Joplin, Mo. on Sept. 19 and again at the UNO Soccer Field, 1-0, on Oct. 29, 2009. UNO has outscored MSSU 27-2 in the 11 meetings between the two schools. UNO defeated MSSU,1-0 in Joplin. Mo. this season on Sept. 25.
The Mavericks hold a 9-1-0 all-time record against Northwest Missouri State including two victories last season. UNO has outscored the Bearcats 33-4 in the series going back to the 1999 season when the two teams first met. On Sept. 30, the Mavs shutout the Bearcats at home 3-0.
Scouting The Lions and Bearcats
Missouri Southern has played in six double-overtime games already this season, but it has dropped two straight games overall. Currently No. 5 in the MIAA, the Lions are 3-7-4 in the conference and were narrowly defeated,1-0 by, Truman last week. Before the 6-0 loss to TSU, the Lions had only given up a total of 14 goals on the season.
Northwest Missouri State currently holds a 2-9-4 overall record and a 2-8-3 mark in MIAA action. The Bearcats currently sit eighth in the MIAA standings.
The Bearcats have dropped two of their last three games overall including a 3-0 shutout at Washburn on Oct. 23.
The Coaches
Head coach Don Klosterman is in his 12th season at the helm of the Maverick soccer team. He has compiled a 190-52-10 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to eight-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2002-2009).
Missouri Southern is coached by Alese Woodard. She was a former goalkeeper for MSSU and has led her team to a 3-7-4 overall record in her first season as coach of the Lions.
Tracy Hoza is in her eighth season as the Bearcats head coach. Last season, she led her team to a program-record 11 wins and fifth place in the MIAA standings, the team's best finish since 2001. That performance followed a 10-win season in 2008 and a nine-win mark in 2006.
Youth Emerging For the Mavericks
Junior forward Hilary Horvatic remains the statistical leader for the Mavericks. Horvatic has compiled a team-leading five goals along with three assists. She has notched four goals in the last five games to lead all scorers.
Junior midfielder #Hayley Renshaw# remains the team leader in assists with six and dished out a pair in the team's last game against Southwest Baptist.
Sophomore defender #Danielle Archuleta# has come on strong as of late, scoring three goals in the last three games for the Mavericks. Freshman #Katie Pickinpaugh# excelled last week against Southwest Baptist, scoring her first three goals of the season in a lopsided 7-2 victory at home. Pickinpaugh has missed eight games this season due to injury.
Next Up for the Mavericks
UNO will end its regular season at Emporia State on Saturday, Nov. 6 in a 1 p.m. matchup. The Mavericks defeated the Hornets, 3-1, at home on Oct. 7.
