OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO swimming and diving team kicked off its season on Friday, hosting Nebraska-Kearney in an unscored meet at HPER Pool.
The Mavericks had the top swimmers in each event.
UNO's all-freshman relay team of #Riley Smith#, #Madeline Hutt#, #Mary Beth Rye and Hannah Alexander# won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:59.98.
Senior #Laura Kemp# took first in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.53, just edging out teammate #Cait Hopkins# who was just two-tenths of a second behind. Kemp also picked up a first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.34 and the 400 yard individual medley at 4:44.20.
Junior #Amy Bechdolt# was first in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:01.68.
Hopkins took first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.91 and also won the 100-yard free in 54.71.
The Mavs capped the meet with a win in the 800 yard freestyle relay. The all-senior team of Hopkins, #Katie Becker#, Kemp and #Lucy Zamecnik# posted a time of 8:38.33.
UNK's Kim Ellicott won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.
The Mavericks take to the road next, visiting the University of Alaska for a meet on Oct. 17 and 18.
