OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO Mavericks reached their highest position ever in the weekly hockey rankings, coming in at fourth in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Division I polls. The previous high water mark for the Mavs was number five during the 2001-02 season.
UNO is also ranked fourth in the latest power rankings compiled by InsideCollegeHockey.com, a move up of seven places from last week's rankings.
The Mavericks also received two first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and one first-place vote in the USA Today poll. It's the second straight week they've gotten first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and the first in the USA Today poll.
UNO is one of six WCHA teams in the top 20 poll compiled by USCHO.com. Minnesota Duluth is ranked first followed by UNO, North Dakota (8), Denver (13), Wisconsin (15) and Minnesota (19). USA Today's poll ranks only 15 teams.
The Mavericks (8-1-1, 5-0-1 WCHA) will host a top-ten matchup this weekend when they host North Dakota (7-4-1, 6-2-0 WCHA) on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20. Friday's game starts at 7:37 p.m. while Saturday's game begins at 7:07 p.m. Tickets for both games are on sale at the Qwest Center box office and at Sapp Fieldhouse on the UNO campus.
