UNO Finishes Ninth at MIAA Cross Country Champions

HAYS, Kan. - UNO got two top 10 performances and Freshman of the Year honors in finishing ninth at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Fort Hays State.
Senior Anja Puc, a sprint and short-distance specialist who was running in her first ever cross country race, finished third overall with a time of 21:39, just 21 seconds off the lead.
#Katarina Zarudnaya#, who was also running her first cross country race, finished seventh with a time of 21:52. Zarudnaya earned the Freshman of the Year honor as the top finishing first-year runner.
Pittsburg State won the championship, comfortably beting runner up Missouri Southern 44-99. Northwest Missouri State was third with 104 points. UNO finished with 174 points.
Truman State's Karen Grauel was the overall winner in a time of 21:18.
#Brittany Phillips# finished third for UNO with a time of 24:12, good for 57th place. #Nicole Behm# was fourth for UNO, clocking a time of 24:23 over the 6K course. #Kayla Fenske# finished 63rd overall in a time of 24:29. Kayla Koepke, another sprinter for UNO, finished 80th overall, clocking a time of 27:39.
The Mavericks will run in a dual meet at Iowa Western on Tuesday, Nov. 9 before preparing for the Division II Regionals at Warrensburg, Mo.
