Faulkner Earns Third WCHA Player of the Week Honor

MADISON, Wis. - UNO goaltender #John Faulkner# was named the Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week today, the third time he's received the honor. Last week, Faulkner allowed just two even-strength goals and set the school record with his fourth shutout of the season.
Faulkner was also named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12 and Nov. 9.
The native of Sarnia, Ontario stopped all 24 shots last Sunday, backstopping the Mavericks to a 3-0 win over Colorado College to earn a split in the series. He was named the game's first star. Faulkner's four shutouts lead the nation. He broke Dan Ellis' school record for shutouts in a season, a mark Ellis hit in two separate seasons. He is more than halfway to tying the school record for career shutouts which is seven held by Jerad Kaufmann.
For the season, Faulkner is sixth in the WCHA in goals-against average (2.35), fourth in save percentage (.915), first in shutouts (4) and minutes played (1045:43) for all games played.
The Mavericks are 12-5-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the WCHA, good for fourth place, just a point behind Denver and Minnesota Duluth which are tied for second. The Mavs return to action following the Christmas break on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 30 and 31 when they visit Quinnipiac of the ECAC.
