Friday's Hockey Game Has New Time

OMAHA, Neb. - Fans coming to the UNO Mavericks' hockey game against Michigan on Friday, Feb. 12 should note that the game will start one-half hour earlier than usual. The Mavs and Wolverines will face off at 7:05 p.m. to accommodate CBS College Sports which will be televising both games of the weekend series.
Friday's game will be simulcast locally on NET2.
This weekend marks UNO's last home series as a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Mavericks will finish the CCHA schedule on the road at Miami on Feb. 19 and 20 and then conclude the regular season with a non-conference series against #5 Bemidji State. the team with whom it will join the Western Collegiate Hockey Association next season.
Also, this weekend marks the second week of UNO's "Stache for Cash", its annual fundraiser for Leap For A Cure to benefit brain cancer research. Players and coaches are growing mustaches and beards in support of the cause. Fans vote on the best facial hair by making donations at the game in the name of the player or coach. Those who collect the least amount of money are eliminated.
The goal of this year's fundraiser is $50,000. Following the first weekend of donations, the Mavericks have collected more than $12,000 which includes a large donation and a matching grant pledge. Last year, the fundraiser brought in $40,000. The money raised will go to the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center.
Tickets for both games this weekend are on sale at UNO's Sapp Fieldhouse box office daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket also may be purchased at the Qwest Center box office.
