Broadhurst, Faulkner Earn CCHA Weekly Awards

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - UNO forward #Terry Broadhurst and goaltender John Faulkner# each picked up awards from the Central Collegiate Hockey Association this week. Broadhurst was named the CCM Rookie of the Week for the second straight week while Faulkner earned the nod as the Reebok Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season.
Broadhurst continued his strong play down the stretch with two goals and two assists for four points in UNO's weekend sweep of Michigan. He had two powerplay goals in Friday's 4-3 win over the Wolverines. His second goal of the game was the game-winner, his team-leading fourth of the season. The next night, he had two assists as the Mavs beat Michigan, 4-1. He was +1 for the weekend. Broadhurst has seven goals and three assists for ten points in his last five games to rise to fifth in scoring among CCHA freshmen.
Faulkner won his second and third straight games by backstopping the Mavericks to the sweep over Michigan. He made 29 saves and allowed three goals in a 4-3 win over the Wolverines on Friday. The next night, he tied his own team season-high with 36 saves in a 4-1 win over UM. For the weekend, Faulkner stopped 65 of 69 shots, posting a 2.00 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage. Faulkner is now 12-9-4 on the season with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
Also this week, the Mavericks inched closer to earning rankings in the two major college hockey polls. The Mavs received 46 points in voting in the USCHO.com weekly poll, putting them in the "Also Receiving Votes" category. UNO also received eight points in the voting in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll. The Mavs re-entered the Inside College Hockey power rankings at 16.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20 when they visit the top-ranked Miami Red Hawks. Friday's game begins at 6:35 p.m. CT, and Saturday's game starts at 6:05 p.m. CT. Friday's game will air on the NHL Network. This will be UNO's final regular season CCHA series. The Mavs will join the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the 2010-2011 season.
