Mavs Earn Split with Colorado Mines; Sunday's Acti

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Mavericks used a pair of three-run innings to lead to a win in game one but gave up seven runs in the first inning of game two in a doubleheader split at Colorado Mines. No. 12 Nebraska-Omaha (1-3) took the opener, 10-5 before falling in game two, 7-5.
The Mavericks' doubleheader at Regis on Sunday has been cancelled due to a forecasted snow storm. UNO will next be in action with four games next Friday and Saturday in the River Hawk Classic in Tulsa, Okla.
#Kristin Wellwood went 4 for 4 in the first game and Lindsay Slocum# went 2 for 4. They each had three RBI. Slocum had a three-run double in the sixth inning and Wellwood drove her in with a single to make the score, 8-1 UNO.
The Orediggers answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 8-4. #Katelyn Hinton# then hit a two-run double in the seventh to help put the game out of reach.
#Melissa Negrete# pitched the complete game victory and allowed three earned runs off 10 hits with four strikeouts. The Mavericks got 15 hits from 10 different players.
The Orediggers got seven runs in the bottom of the first in game two off starter #Beth Haley#. Slocum pitched the remainder of the game and allowed two hits with no runs.
The Mavericks had a big fourth inning to get back in the game. Slocum led off with a double and then scored on a single from Wellwood. #Treightin Yates# later hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three more for the Mavs and get them within three.
They managed just one more run in the game off another RBI hit from Wellwood that drove in Slocum.
Wellwood went 3 for 4 in the game and 7 for 8 on the day with five RBI. Slocum, #Jenna Dell and Molly Feichtinger# each had two hits in the second game.
