
Holtmeyer Earns MIAA Pitcher of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Maverick right-hander #Joe Holtmeyer# was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Pitcher of the Week for his performances on the mound last week. Holtmeyer picked up a pair of wins in complete game fashion last week against MIAA rivals Truman and Emporia State.
The sophomore from Omaha was nearly perfect on the hill for UNO in his sixth start of the season against Truman on March 22. He struck out a career-high 16 batters and allowed just one hit en route to his first complete game shutout of the season. Holtmeyer struck out the side in the first, third and fifth innings, and at one point in the game, retired 11-straight batters. He fanned each Bulldog starter at least one time, and struck out seven of the nine starters twice in the game. He finished with seven innings pitched and did not walk any batters. It was the most strikeouts by a Maverick pitcher in a game since Tim Huber and Dustin Koca each fanned 14 batters in 2008.
On March 28 against Emporia State, Holtmeyer again lasted all seven innings to collect his third complete game of the season and second consecutive. He sat down 13 Hornet batters in the game and allowed one run on three hits while walking three batters to help the Mavericks to a 2-1 win over ESU in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Holtmeyer is 4-1 on the year in seven starts and leads the team with 74 strikeouts. He has recorded double-digit strikeouts in four of his seven starts this year. The sophomore is leading the team with a 1.99 earned run average and 40.2 innings pitched. Holtmeyer's 16.29 strikeouts per nine innings currently ranks second in Division II baseball.
