
Mavs Host Bearcats to Clost Out 12-Game Home Stand

The No. 26 University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team (16-8, 12-4 MIAA) will face another conference foe this week when the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (6-23, 5-17 MIAA) come to town for a four-game series. The series will open on Thursday, April 1 with a 3 p.m. game, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 1 p.m. and will conclude on Saturday, April 3 one game at 12 p.m. All games will be played at the Ballpark at Boys Town in Boys Town, Neb.
A Look At The Bearcats
SBU is 6-23 overall with a 5-17 conference mark. The Bearcats split their doubleheader with second-ranked Central Missouri on March 30 with a 14-5 loss in the first game and a 12-11 (8 inn.) win in the nightcap. SBU rallied from an 8-1 deficit to earn the win. The game was called in the eight inning due to darkness, and by NCAA rule, the Bearcats received the victory. SBU is 1-7 in road games this season.
The Bearcats are led offensively by Paden Grubbs who leads the team with 37 hits, 12 doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBIs. As a team, SBU is hitting .290 while opponents have hit .340 against them on the year.
SBU has struggled on the mound this season with its starters collecting four wins. Ethan Stenger and Greg Seay have both started seven games on the year, but neither has recorded a win. Reliever Josh Brock leads the team with a 2-1 record.
The Series
UNO and Southwest Baptist have a played just four games against each other all time since the Mavs joined the MIAA last season. The Mavs won all four games last season on the road in Bolivar, Mo., taking the first doubleheader by scores of 8-0 and 13-3 on March 20. UNO completed the sweep on March 21 with victories of 10-1 and 12-3. It will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools on UNO's home field.

Mavs Ranked Nationally
The UNO baseball team is currently ranked No. 26 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II poll, which was released on March 29. The Mavs moved up to spots from their previous No. 28 ranking. Other MIAA schools ranked in the poll are Central Missouri who sits near the top at No. 2, and Emporia State which is tied for 10th with USC Aiken.
The Mavs are also ranked in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers poll, which was released on March 30. UNO is ranked 25 in that poll. UCM is third in the poll while ESU is No. 12.

The Coaches
#Bob Herold# begins his 11th season as head coach of the Mavericks. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 358-212 all-time as a college head coach. The Maverick skipper picked up his 350th career win against on March 7 with a 9-8 win over Missouri Southern State. Herold is assisted by Chris Gadsden (11th Season) and Dan McGinn (10th Season).
The Bearcats are led by head coach Sam Berg who is in his 11th season with SBU. Berg earned his 150th victory at SBU earlier this year. During his time in Bolivar, Berg has seen his program produce 24 All-MIAA awards, and two NCAA All-Region winners.
