Mavs Jump to Sixth in Region Ranking

The Mavericks jumped from eighth to sixth in this week's NCAA South Central Region ranking released Wednesday. Nebraska-Omaha has won nine straight since last week's poll and sits at 29-9 overall and second in the MIAA at 9-2.
Emporia State remained the only MIAA team ahead of the Mavs in the ranking. The Hornets are second in the region while Midwestern State is first. MIAA foe Missouri Western State is ninth.
Eight teams advance to the two NCAA South Central Region tournaments at the end of the regular season. The top two teams in the region host two four-team tournaments. The winners of the MIAA, Lone Star Conference and Heartland Conference tournaments each receive an automatic bid and the remaining five seeds are filled by the top teams in the region.
The Mavericks have been to 20 straight NCAA tournaments. They won the 2001 national championship and advanced to the sub-regional championship game last year.
The Mavs swept Northwest Missouri State Tuesday and will now play at the MIAA Northern Crossover this weekend, hosted by the Bearcats. Friday they'll play Emporia State at 4 p.m. and then they'll play twice Saturday and twice Sunday.
