Bulldogs End UNO's Season in MIAA Tournament

Kansas City, Mo. - The UNO men's tennis team fell victim to the Bulldogs of Truman State on Saturday in the first round of the MIAA Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. The 5-1 loss would have moved the Mavs to a fifth place consolation match, but it will be canceled due to weather. The Mavs finish the season 6-9 overall and 1-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Assocation. Truman State advances to the semifinals with the win where they will take on the No. 1 overall seed Northwest Missouri State.
#Drew Mercier and Matt Frost# earned the lone Maverick victory in No. 1 doubles, where they defeated Kyle Schlotz and John Rothfusz of Truman State, 8-3. However, the team was unable to build upon the win as #Chase Petersen and Peter Greteman# failed to win the doubles competition for the Mavs when they were defeated in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
In singles play, junior #Drew Mercier# lost at No. 1 to Peter Bracha of TSU, 6-4, 7-5. The match was completed when freshman #Eric McKnight# lost in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Senior #Chase Petersen# finishes the season with a 9-8 overall singles record, while #Drew Mercier# is second on the team in overall singles wins with eight. The two Mavericks also combined for the most wins as a pairing in doubles, with five.
