Mavericks Jump to 23rd Nationally, Remain 5th in R

NCAA Regional Rankings
The Mavericks remained in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll for the second straight week, jumping to No. 23 in Wednesday's ranking. They also stayed put in the NCAA South Central Region ranking at fifth.
The Mavs (38-9, 11-2 MIAA) have won 18 straight games. The streak helped UNO re-enter the NFCA poll last week at No. 25 after being left out of the last seven. The Mavericks entered the preseason ranked 12th but slipped out after starting the year 3-4.
Emporia State is the top MIAA team in the current national ranking, sitting at ninth. The Hornets are second in the region behind Midwestern State, which is ranked third in the country.
The Mavericks will play three make-up games and their final four scheduled home games as they wrap up the regular season with seven MIAA games this week. Wednesday they travel to Missouri Western for a 3 p.m. doubleheader to make up last week's rained out contests. Friday they host Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m. and Saturday they host Central Missouri at 1 p.m. in what will be Senior Day. Sunday they have one game to make up at Washburn at 2 p.m.
The top eight teams in the MIAA will take part in the MIAA Postseason Tournament in Overland Park, Kan., next week. Thursday, May 6, all eight teams will play first round, second round and consolation first round games. Friday, May 7, the field will be whittled to two teams and those two will play for the championship on Saturday. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The NCAA will announce the field for the South Central Region I and II tournaments on Sunday, May 9. Eight teams from the region make the postseason.
