Moore, Belling Pace Mavericks at Northwest Open

MARYVILLE, Mo.--Seniors #Shannon Moore and Molly Belling# led the Maverick track and field team at the Northwest Open, its first outdoor meet of 2010. The meet was hosted by Northwest Missouri State.
Moore finished first in the 100 meter hurdles at 14.33, a new personal record and the second best time in UNO outdoor history. The senior said the transition from indoor to outdoor is not a big adjustment.
“For me personally, I have been doing it awhile,” Moore said. “The weather can definitely be a factor, but I know we all still need some improvements…including myself.”
Belling, a nine-time All-American who was making her first outdoor appearance in nearly 18 months because of injuries, finished the 200 meters in second at 25.47 and the 100 meter in third place at 12.52. Coming off only this year's previous indoor season, Belling said it felt good to get out there in her final season of outdoor competition.
“I was excited to get back out there, especially after being out for almost two years, Belling said. “I knew today was going to be a little bit of an off day for me, but I didn't think I would be where I ended up.
“It was a good start to where we're going this season.”
Junior #Madison Haugland# set a personal record in the hammer throw with a distance of 139 feet, four inches, breaking her previous outdoor best by more than two feet.
#Anja Puc#, primarily a 800 meter specialist, ran in her first 1500 meter event finishing with a time of 4:54.13, good for fifth. #Megan Oddo# finished just behind Puc in eighth at 4:59.95.
In her first ever 800 meter event, junior #Kayla Koepke# earned a third-place finish at 2:27.08 with junior Lisa Teserak just behind in fifth at 2:27.82.
The Maverick 4x400 meter relay team of Koepke, Tesarek, #Jolene Smith and Nicole Behm# produced a time of 4:13.21, good for fifth.
Next week, the team will travel to Lincoln for the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday, April 10 beginning at 11 a.m.
