Moore Takes First at Emporia State Heptathlon

EMPORIA, Kan. – #Shannon Moore# set a personal best in the heptathlon to win the Emporia State Multi Events on Friday afternoon. The UNO senior earned a mark that is the best in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and ranks second-best in NCAA Division II this season.
Moore finished with a score of 5,261 to edge St. Cloud State's Heather Miller who posted a score of 5,221. Paige Pollard of Wayne State was third at 4,343.
Moore had a commanding lead after day one on Thursday, thanks in part to yet another personal best in the 100 meter hurdles, the first event of the competition. She ran a time of 14.26, placing second to Miller, the 2010 indoor champion in the pentathlon.
The native of Alexandria, Va. also had a personal best in the 200 meters, winning the event on day one with a time of 24.89.
On day two, Moore posted a personal best in the javelin with a toss of 102 feet, one inch, finishing second to Miller in the event. Moore capped the competition by winning the 800 meters in a time of 2:19.93.
Moore's point total ranks second all-time in UNO history in the heptathlon.
