MARSHALL, Minn. - Nebraska-Omaha sophomore right-hander #Joe Holtmeyer earned a spot on the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America baseball team as a first team selection. Senior outfielder Tyler Lundy# was named an honorable mention.
A total of 45 student-athletes, representing 33 institutions were named to either the first, second or third team All-America squad, while 18 were named honorable mention. Members of the NCAA Division II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selected the All-America teams.
Holtmeyer becomes the seventh All-America first team selection in UNO history and is first Maverick pitcher to earn the honor since the duo of Chris Weimer and Dustin Koca were named to the first team in 2008. Lundy becomes just the second honorable mention in UNO history, joining Bryan Frew who collected the honor in 2008.
Bryan Fogle, a senior outfielder from Erskine (S.C.) was named the Player of the Year, while Hayden Simpson, a junior pitcher from Southern Arkansas was tabbed Pitcher of the Year.
Holtmeyer (as of May 18) leads all of NCAA baseball - Division I, II or II, with 152 strikeouts and 15.67 Ks per nine innings in 87 1/3 innings of work. He finished the season with a 9-2 record - seven-straight wins from March 22 - May 1 and a 2.89 ERA while opposing batters hit just .157 off him. In 2010, Holtmeyer tossed a no-hitter, six complete games with a span of four-straight complete games at one point in the season, three one-hitters, one complete-game shut out and one shared shut out. He posted six games with 13 or more Ks in a game, two with 15 or more Ks and nine games with double-digit strike outs.
The Omaha, Neb., product was tabbed the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Pitcher of the Year and was a unanimous all-MIAA first team selection starting pitcher. He earned the South Central Region Pitcher of the Year and was a first team starting pitcher selection in the South Central Region. Holtmeyer was also named Rawling/American Baseball Coaches Association South Central Region Pitcher of the Year and was a Rawlings/ABCA all-South Central Region first team selection.
Lundy led the Mavericks with a .447 average, 89 hits, 45 runs, four triples, eight home runs and 56 RBI while slugging .698. He finished the 2010 season riding a 21-game hitting streak, the longest by a Maverick in the last decade. The Minot, N.D., native was a first team all-MIAA selection and all-South Central Region first team selection as an outfielder. Lundy also earned a spot on the Rawlings/ABCA all-South Central Region first team.
