AMARILLO, Texas – UNO senior #Erin Ommen# fired a final round score of seven-over par 79 to finish her collegiate career in a six-way tie for 18th at the NCAA Division II Super Region 4 at the Tascosa Country Club. She concluded the tournament with a total score of 241.
Ommen, representing the Mavericks as an individual, did not qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship. The top three teams and the top three individuals not with a qualifying team advance. Ommen was the top finisher among the four individual golfers playing without their teams.
Ommen improved her score in each successive round of the three-round tournament. She shot 82 in round one and 80 yesterday.
Starting on the back nine yet again in round three, Ommen had six pars, two bogeys and a double bogey on the 16th hole to go out at four-over par 40. She took a triple-bogey seven on the par-four third hole but rallied to post a birdie on the next hole, a par five. She played the last five holes at one over par, finishing with a birdie, two pars and two bogeys.
Tarleton State won the regional with a team score of 922, a full 30 strokes better than runner-up California State Monterey Bay. Sonoma State finished in third at 954, just edging out West Texas A&M which finished two strokes back.
Cal State Monterey Bay's Darcy Lake was the individual medalist, finishing with a tournament-leading score of 224. She was four strokes better than Jacqueline Lau of Tarleton State and Spencer Heller of Sonoma State who tied for second at 228.
The NCAA Division II National Championship will be held at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. from May 12-15.
