Five Mavericks Named To All-MIAA Baseball Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sophomore right-hander #Joe Holtmeyer was named Pitcher of the Year and Tyler Splichal# earned Freshman of the Year honors, as the 2010 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Baseball Team was announced on Thursday by the league offices.
First and second All-MIAA teams were also announced and five Nebraska-Omaha players were named to the two teams. Holtmeyer, #Andrew Hansen and Tyler Lundy were all named to the All-MIAA first team. Splichal and Brady Hoh#l earned All-MIAA second team accolades.
Holtmeyer leads the conference in nearly every major pitching category this season. The sophomore has a 9-1 record in 75 2/3 innings pitched – ranks fourth, to go along with his 1.90 ERA and 137 strikeouts, which also lead all of NCAA baseball. Opponents are hitting just .119 off the right-hander.
Splichal, a true freshman from Bellevue, Neb., is second on the team, hitting .407 – sixth in the MIAA, with 74 hits – fourth in the MIAA, while slugging .604. His 21 doubles are tops in the MIAA and on the team.
Lundy leads the MIAA with a .451 batting average and 82 hits. The outfielder from Minot, N.D., leads the Mavericks with 43 runs scored, four triples, eight HRs, 53 RBI and is slugging .714. Lundy has been gripping a red-hot bat, hitting safely in his last 18 games, which is the longest by a Maverick all season.
It's the second-straight season Hansen has been selected to the All-MIAA first team. The senior second baseman has reached base in all of UNO's 48 games so far this year. He is second on the team and third in the MIAA with 17 doubles.
Hohl, a sophomore, is third on the team with a .358 batting average. His 57 hits are tied for fourth on the team. Hohl has drove in 42 runs which is second best on the team. He has started 47 of UNO's 48 games this season, making 38 starts at third base.
