UNO Makes U.S. National Team Feel at Home

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha hosted the U.S. Women's National Team earlier this month in its first visit to Nebraska. The U.S. was in town to play Sweden at Creighton's Morrison Stadium.
The U.S. and Sweden played to a 1-1 tie on July 13. Amy Rodriquez scored the U.S. goal. Nearly 6,500 fans attended the match.
The Americans practiced three times on the UNO soccer field, home of the Mavericks, and worked out at UNO's weight room prior to the match.
"This was a great experience for our players," said UNO assistant coach Ted Anderson. "They got a chance to interact with the U.S. team, helping them with their workouts and taking some pictures. This was a once in a lifetime experience.
"We were excited they wanted to use our facilities. We're privileged to have what we have."
The game was part of the U.S. team's building process as it prepares for the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany.
