UNO Lands Eight on OWH All-Nebraska Baseball Team

OMAHA, Neb. – Eight University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball players were named to The Omaha World-Herald's All-Nebraska Division II baseball team, which was announced on July 7. The Mavericks led all institutions with five players on the all-state squad. Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State each had four players on the team.
All-American pitcher #Joe Holtmeyer# earned Player of the Year, leading NCAA Division II in strikeouts (152) and topped all NCAA pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings (15.7). He finished his sophomore season with a 9-2 record with a 2.89 ERA in 87 1/3 innings pitched. His 152 strikeouts set a school record in a single season, breaking Barry Miller's mark of 112, which stood for 49 years. The right-hander, now pitching this summer in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League for the Harwich Mariners, also was recognized as the 2010 All-Nebraska Division II base team's honorary captain.
First baseman #Tyler Splichal#, third baseman #Brady Hohl#, Outfielder #Tyler Lundy#, second baseman #Andrew Hansen# and Holtmeyer all earned spots on the All-Nebraska Division II baseball team.
Splichal, who earned the MIAA's Freshman of the Year accolades, hit .410 with 82 hits, 22 doubles, five homeruns and drove in 42 runs. He led the team with 200 at-bats with just seven strikeouts.
Hohl, an all-MIAA second team selection, hit .354 with 63 hits, scored 45 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, one homerun and 42 RBI.
Lundy was a Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honorable mention this season after leading the Mavs in nearly all major hitting categories. The senior hit .447 with 89 hits, 45 runs, four triples, eight home runs and 56 RBI while slugging .698. He finished the 2010 season riding a 21-game hitting streak, the longest by a Maverick in the last decade.
Hansen started all of UNO's 52 games at second base, while hitting .347 with 66 hits, 18 doubles, three homeruns and drove in 38 runs. He was named to the all-state squad as a utility player.
Outfielder #Trevor Gappa#, Shortstop #Jeremy Klein and starting pitcher Matt Tew# were honorable mention selections.
The Mavericks finished the 2010 season with a 32-20 record and earned their sixth-straight appearance at the NCAA Regionals.
