OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO cross country team got an early start to its season at the annual running of the UNO/Creighton Classic. The women's 5K race went off at 8 a.m. with three Mavericks in the field.
#Megan Oddo# posted UNO's top time at 20:56, good for 26th overall in a field that included Nebraska, Creighton, South Dakota, Iowa Western, Peru State and the College of St. Mary.
#Nicole Behm# was close behind in 31st place after running a time of 21:45. Freshman #Kayla Fenske# was in 36th, clocking in at 22:17.
The Mavericks did not have enough runners to earn a team score because of injuries, most notably to #Brittany Phillips# who along with Oddo and Behm, is part of UNO's talented sophomore class.
Lara Crofford of Nebraska was the top finisher in a time of 18:11. She led the Huskers to a dominant win as Nebraska earned the top five spots for 15 points. South Dakota was second in 61 and Creighton finished third with 74.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational.
