
Young Earns WCHA Rookie of the Week Nod

MADISON, Wis. - UNO defenseman #Michael Young# was named the WCHA's Red Baron Rookie of the Week after posting two goals and two assists last weekend at North Dakota. He is the fourth Maverick to earn a player of the week award this season.
Young, a freshman out of Calgary, Alberta, scored his first career goal and added two assists in UNO's 8-4 win over the Fighting Sioux last Friday. The goal was also UNO's first shorthanded tally of the season. The following night, he scored another shorthanded goal in the Mavericks 4-2 loss to the Sioux. He finished the weekend with six shots and a +2 rating which tied for the team lead for the series.
For the season, Young has two goals and eight assists for 10 points to rank 10th in team scoring and second among defensemen.
Young joins fellow freshman Matt White in winning the Rookie of the Week award. UNO goalie #John Faulkner has won the WCHA's Defensive Player of the Week award three times this season while Eric Olimb# won the award as well.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Jan. 28 when they begin a six-game home stand by hosting Alabama-Huntsville at the Qwest Center. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m. while Saturday's game starts at 7:07 p.m. Saturday's game also will be televised live statewide on NET-1.
