GREELEY, Colo. – The UNO swimming & diving team wrapped up its two-meet road trip in Colorado, falling 193.5-100.5 to Northern Colorado on Tuesday night.
Freshman Lexi Bergeron led the Mavs again with two first-place finishes in both the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 500 free. Bergeron improved her time in the 1,000 from the previous meet at Air Force by 12 seconds, posting a mark of 10:55.21 against UNC. Bergeron also clocked a time of 5:21.36 in the 500 free.
Sophomore Maddie Hutt finished in a rare tie for first in the 200-yard breaststroke with UNC's Gina Riggle, as both put up a time of 2:24.76.
Sophomore Tiesha Scipio notched a time of 55.10 in the 100 free, giving her a top finish. Scipio also placed second in the 50 free, clocking a time of 24.96.
Freshman Christen Young scored nine points for the Mavs with a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:15.81.
The Mavericks' 400-yard free relay team of Young, freshman Ashley Kneifl, senior Kylie Hubbell and sophomore Erin Wright swam to first in a time of 3:48.78.
UNC's Courtney Van Oost contributed three first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly to help her team beat the Mavs.
“I felt the results didn't give a full flavor of the meet,” Head Coach Todd Samland said. “We competed extremely well and were just out-touched in multiple events. This was a great experience for us. We were able to see two top quality programs within a couple of days. It is promising to see that we are only a few steps away from reaching the next level. We have the athletes and facilities; it is just a matter of time, and it is our goal to accelerate that timeline.
UNO returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, hosting Illinois State at HPER Pool at 1 p.m.
