Mavericks Announce Three Signees for 2012-13

OMAHA, Neb. – University of Nebraska Omaha women's basketball head coach Chance Lindley has signed three recruits to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to join the Mavericks in the 2012-13 school year.
Lindley's staff made a splash in the state of California, signing two talented guards from The Golden State. Kate Bayes, a 5-9 guard from Sonoma Academy in Novato, Calif., and Ashlie Bruner, a 5-6 guard out of Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, Calif., will join last year's late signee Taijhe Kelly as Californians on the UNO roster. In addition to Bruner and Bayes, junior college transfer Casse Vaughn, a 6-0 forward from Arkansas Baptist College, will join the Mavs next season. Vaughn is originally from Little Rock, Ark., where she finished her high school career at North Little Rock High School.
All three signess add impressive credentials to Lindley's first true recruiting class since he was named head coach last April.
“All three of these young ladies fit the profile of the type of player we want to represent our program,” Lindley said. “They are all very hard-working and competitive student-athletes who have a desire to win and compete for championships. We expect Kate, Ashlie and Casse to make an immediate impact for our program, and we are extremely excited about their futures here at UNO.”
Bayes averaged 21.0 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game, 6.2 assists per game and 4.5 steals per game in her junior year. She scored a career-high 44 points in Sonoma Academy's 62-51 win over Bentley and surpassed the 1,500 point mark in her career. Bayes was named first-team all-league and first-team all-Empire for the third straight year after helping the Coyotes qualify for the Division V NorCal playoffs for the first time. She was rated the 29th best prospect in Northern California by NorCalPreps.com.
Also a standout soccer player with more than 150 career goals to her credit, Bayes was named The Press Democrat All-Empire Small-School Female Athlete of the Year after her sophomore and junior years. In her freshman year, she helped Sonoma Academy win the North Coast Section Division VI championship with 30 points in the title game.
“Kate has a very high basketball IQ and is a versatile guard with a scorer's mentality,” Lindley said. “She will add a new dimension to our offense, and her competitiveness is second to none.”
Bruner averaged 13.3 points, 6.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game in her junior year as Palisades High School's point guard. Bruner helped the Dolphins to a 25-10 record and the second round of the Division II SoCal playoffs. She earned MVP honors at the Palisades Beach Invitational, as the Dolphins won the tournament title. She was one of only two juniors named to the Los Angeles City Section All-City First Team in 2011 and was also named to the Cal-Hi Division II all-state team.
“Ashlie is an athletic combo guard who has a tremendous skill set," Lindley said. "She can contribute in a variety of ways, whether that be scoring, assists or steals. She will do whatever the team needs to be successful."
Finally, Vaughn is six games in to her sophomore season at Arkansas Baptist College, where she is averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Buffaloes. Vaughn started her collegiate career at Arkansas Tech University in 2010-11, where she helped the Golden Suns to the Division II Elite 8, appearing in 27 games and averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
At North Little Rock High School, Vaughn was a three-time Class 7A Central All-Conference selection and an all-state honoree as a senior. She was named to the Class 7A all-state tournament team as a junior in 2009 and an all-metro selection in 2010. Vaughn averaged 12.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a senior and led the Charging Wildcats to a 31-0 record and the Arkansas Class 7A state championship.

“Casse will bring some valuable experience to this team immediately," Lindley said. "She is a power forward with the versatility to play other positions. She is a great rebounder and has a good face-up game out to the arc as well. She just has a true feel for the game."
