OMAHA, Neb. – University of Nebraska Omaha Director of Golf Tim Nelson announced today that three players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the UNO women's golf team. Gentry Carveth and Makenna Kroeker of Lincoln and Katie Kesti of Red Wing, Minn. will begin playing for the Mavericks in the fall of 2012.
“We're excited to add three quality players to our roster for the upcoming season,” said Nelson. “All three have had successful high school careers, and we think they will be equal to the challenge of playing collegiately at the Division I level.”
Carveth is currently attending Lincoln Southwest High School where she has been a four-year letter winner in golf. She was the individual medalist at both the state Class A tournament and the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament as a senior. She helped lead the Silver Hawks to a runner-up finish at the state tournament and a first-place finish at the district tournament. She was an all-city and all-state honoree, finishing her senior year with a scoring average of 83.
Kroeker teamed with Carveth at Lincoln Southwest where she was a three-year letter winner. As a senior, she medaled in 10 tournaments including a first-place medal at the Spartan Invite. She helped the Silver Hawks to nine tournament wins in addition to posting the top two team scores in school history. Kroeker has been an NSAA Academic All-State selection and a Lincoln Southwest Academic Athletic Scholar.
Kesti is a three-year letter winner for Red Wing High School with her senior season of golf pending this spring. As a junior, she helped the Wingers to a state and sectional championship. As a freshman, she helped her team to a runner-up finish. Kesti won two tournaments as a junior including her school's own Red Wing Invitational where she shot a career-low round of 72. She is also a three-year letter winner in volleyball for Red Wing HS.
UNO women's golf will begin the spring half of its season in March.
