The UNO Maverick women's basketball continues its four-game homestand with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Dec. 3, against Briar Cliff at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs are 4-3 overall after Thursday's 80-37 win against York. The Mavs are in the midst of four home games in a span of 10 days. The Chargers, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference in NAIA, are 9-1 entering Saturday's matchup and have a 4-0 conference record.
Series History
The Mavs and Chargers will be meeting for the first time since 2004. UNO leads the all-time series 6-2 and won the last matchup, 72-60, on Jan. 5, 2004 in Omaha. Brair Cliff's last win over the Mavs came on Nov. 20, 2001, when it walked out of the Sapp Fieldhouse with an 85-72 win.
Last Time Out
Led by an outstanding effort on the glass, the UNO Maverick women's basketball team rolled past York 80-37 Thursday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks (4-3) outrebounded the Panthers, 58-24, and dominated the paint, 62-10, in cruising to the 43-point victory, the largest margin since a 71-28 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 27, 2009. Paige Frauendorfer had 17 points, 12 rebounds and six steals, and four other Mavs finished in double-figures in the win.
UNO's 58 rebounds in the game tied for eighth in school history, and the Mavs also grabbed 27 offensive rebounds, the most since they had 30 on Nov. 17, 2007 at Rockhurst. The Mavs took control of the game early with their best run of the season. Leading 10-5 at the 15:36 mark, UNO went on a 27-0 run over the next 10:37 to lead 37-5. UNO outrebounded York 33-12 in the first half, including 18 offensive rebounds. The Mavs converted that into a 17-0 advantage in second-chance points. UNO forced 18 first-half turnovers and held a 27-5 advantage in points off turnovers at the break.
The Mavs led by as many as 48 in the second half, 80-32, with 3:31 left. Nebraska Omaha finished the game with a 22-2 edge in second-chance points and an 18-0 advantage in fast-break points. In addition to Frauendorfer's third double-double of the season, Stacia Gebers had 14 points and six rebounds; Rese Huddlin had career highs of 12 points and nine rebounds; Taijhe Kelly had career highs of 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Heather Pohl had 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Coaches
Chance Lindley is in his first year as the Mavericks' head coach. The 35-year-old Lindley comes to UNO from Arizona, where he was an assistant for three years. Lindley's first collegiate head coaching gig came at Barton County Community College, where he went 34-4 in 2007-08 before moving on to Arizona. Lindley graduated cum laude from Wichita State in 2000 with a degree in physical education.
Mike Power is in his 11th year as the head coach at Briar Cliff. Power has a 197-142 record at the school and a 318-316 overall record in 23 seasons as a head coach. Power graduated from Nebraska in 1988.
Scouting the Opponents
Briar Cliff is 9-1 and has won eight straight games. The Chargers have 10 letterwinners back from last year's team that went 21-13 and advanced to the second round of the NAIA Tournament. The Chargers are scoring 82.6 points per game. Kylie Dilla leads the way at 12.7, while Kela Cihak averages 11.5 points per game. Megan Salcedo chips in 9.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Maverick Roundup
1) Paige Frauendorfer is off to the best start of any Maverick, averaging 15.6 points on 56.2-percent shooting from the field. The junior guard has led the Mavericks in scoring in five of the first seven games and has already set new career highs in both points (24) and rebounds (12). Frauendorfer has scored in double-figures in all seven games and is coming off her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds against York on Thursday.
2) Heather Pohl was 2-for-6 from 3-point range on Thursday, giving her 125 career 3-pointers, which ranks her sixth in school history. Pohl needs just five more to move into sole possession of fifth place.
3) Jamie Nash had seven steals in the win over York, and she now has 199 career steals, which ranks her 10th in school history. Nash will move into sole possession of eighth place with two more steals and needs just six to move into seventh place. Nash is averaging 5.4 steals per game, which ranks second in the nation.
4) UNO's 58 rebounds in the win over York on Thursday tied for eighth in school history, and the Mavs also grabbed 27 offensive rebounds, the most since they had 30 on Nov. 17, 2007 at Rockhurst.
5) Taijhe Kelly and Rese Huddlin had career games against York on Thursday. Kelly had career highs of 12 points and eight rebounds, while Huddlin had career highs of 12 points and nine rebounds. The two combined for 11 offensive rebounds.

Because of its reclassification period, Nebraska Omaha cannot be included in the official NCAA statistics. However, with 5.4 steals per game, Jamie Nash would rank second in Division I in that category. William & Mary's Katherine DeHenzel leads the nation with 5.5 steals per game.
Clamping Down on 'D'
The Chance Lindley era is only seven games in, but already the Mavericks are showing improvements on last year's final defensive numbers. The Mavericks are allowing opponents 58.7 points per game, which is nearly 13 points better than last year's 71.3 average. UNO is also holding opponents to 26.7 percent from long distance. That's a significant upgrade from last year, when UNO's opponents shot 35.8 percent from 3-point range and the Mavs finished last in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Winning Numbers
60 has been the magic number so far for the Mavericks. When holding opponents under 60 points, the Mavericks are 4-1. When scoring more than 60 points, the Mavericks are also 4-1. The only exceptions: last Sunday's loss at Marshall (48-54) and the Nov. 12 loss at Metro State (61-64). UNO has fallen in all three games that its trailed with five minutes to play. But when the Mavs are tied or winning with five minutes left, they are 4-0.
Record Seekers
Senior forward Heather Pohl and junior guard Jamie Nash are climbing the charts in UNO women's basketball history. Pohl entered the season ranked seventh in school history in career 3-point field goals made with 113. With 56 treys this year, Pohl would move into second place in school history. She hit 62 last season, which ranks third for single-season 3-pointers made at UNO. Meanwhile, Nash's 120 assists last season tied for ninth-best in a single season, and her 81 steals in 2009-10 are also tied for ninth in school history. Nash's 161 steals in her first two seasons at UNO rank just outside the top 10 in school history. Entering the 2011-12 season, Nash was on pace for 322 career steals. The school record is 331, set by Kriss Edwards from 1977-81.
Challenging Schedule Awaits Mavs
UNO will play at last year's SEC runner-up Kentucky and will host two games against Division I opponents in the 2011-12 season. In all, the Mavs will play 27 games in their first season as a Division I transitional school, including 12 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO will play 12 games against Division I opponents, including three against Summit League schools - Western Illinois (twice) and UMKC.
Mavericks Reclassify to Division I
Nebraska Omaha announced in March 2011 its plan to reclassify from NCAA Division II to Division I, beginning with the 2011-12 school year. UNO, which was previously a member of the MIAA, accepted an invitation to join The Summit League and will compete as a full-fledged member with a regular-season conference schedule in 2012-13.
