Archibald Has Goal in USA Exhibition Loss

RED DEER, Alberta - UNO freshman forward Josh Archibald scored a goal, but the U.S. squad of candidates for the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team lost to Russia, 6-3, last night. The game was one of three exhibition tune ups before the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Dec. 26.
Archibald scored the first goal of the game for the U.S. at 3:52 of the first period. By that time, the Americans already trailed 2-0.
"While we're disappointed with the loss, this is just a step in our evaluation process," said Dean Blais, UNO's head coach who is leading the U.S. National Junior Team for the second time in three years. "We will continue to work to prepare for the tournament beginning with [Wednesday's] exhibition game against Switzerland."
Archibald is one of 29 players vying for a spot on the final U.S. roster. The final roster will be announced on Dec. 22.
Team USA begins play in the World Junior Championship on Monday, Dec. 26 when it faces Denmark at 7 p.m. CT in Edmonton, Alberta.
