TULSA, Okla. - The UNO women's basketball team returned to action Wednesday night, falling at Tulsa, 68-60, at the Reynolds Center.
Heather Pohl had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Jamie Nash had 12 points, 10 assists and seven steals in the loss. The Mavericks (8-5) trailed by as many as 16 in the second half but rallied to within six in the closing seconds.
The Golden Hurricane (4-6) jumped out to an early lead, but Pohl tied the game at 10-10 with a 3-pointer with 12:35 left in the first half. Tulsa went on an 11-0 run over the next 4:05 to stake a 21-10 lead.
Tulsa maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, extending it to as many as 16 at 52-36 with 9:35 left.
UNO chipped away at the lead late, whittling it down to 66-60 with 10 seconds left.
The Mavs shot 36.7 percent from the field on 22-of-60 shooting, including 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from 3-point range. Tulsa hit 42.1 percent from the field (24-of-57), but held a huge advantage at the free throw line. The Golden Hurricane hit 17-of-23 from the stripe, while UNO got to the line just nine times, connecting on six.
Cathleen Cox had 11 points. Paige Frauendorfer added eight points, and Zenta Liepa had seven.
UNO returns home on Saturday to host Missouri Western at 12 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
