U.S. Falls to Czechs, 5-2

EDMONTON, Alberta - The Czech Republic broke a tie with three goals in the third period to beat the United States 5-2 in the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship on Friday afternoon.
Team USA, led by UNO head coach Dean Blais, dropped to 1-3-0 in the tournament and will face pre-tournament favorite Canada on Saturday night in the final game of the preliminary round.
UNO's Josh Archibald, playing for the U.S., was awarded a penalty shot midway through the third period when he was pulled down on a breakaway. His chance hit the post and the Czechs would score three times in the final 7:34, once into an empty net, to pull away.
"I'm extremely disappointed, but am still focused on tomorrow's game," said Blais. "Our players have a lot of pride, and we'll be ready to go tomorrow."
Regardless of tonight's outcome, the U.S. will finish in fourth in Group B while the Canadians will finish in first.
