Domike Shatters Triple Jump Mark at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - UNO triple jumper #Nkeiruka Domike# posted the 19th-best jump in the world this year and shattered her own Division II-leading mark on day two of the prestigious Tyson Invitational at Arkansas on Saturday.
Domike, in a duel with Florida State's Kimberly Williams in an invitation-only running of the event, posted a jump of 45-1 3/4 on her fifth jump of the day. That was more than 20 inches farther that her previous mark which also led the nation and the longest jump in D-II history. She now leads all Division II jumpers by nearly five feet. Domike is the defending national champion in the triple jump indoors.
Williams won the event with a leap that was four inches farther. Domike was second. The meet features almost exclusively Division I athletes.
In other action at Arkansas, #Maja Mihalinec# lowered her own season-best time in the 200 meters with a time of 24.45. That mark is good for sixth in Division II this season and is a qualifying mark for the NCAA championship.
In the field, #Heather Minssen# improved her own season-best in the shot put with a throw of 47-0 3/4, moving her to ninth in Division II this season.
The Mavericks also participated in the Concordia Indoor Invitational on Saturday. #Jody-Ann Coore# posted a personal best and a qualifying mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.86 which was good for first place.
Also on the track, the team of #Marielle Svaerdh#, #Nicole Behm#, #Sami Spenner and Celeste Robinson# took fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:15.51.
In the field, #Denneil Shaw was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 18-9 while Lianne McNaughton# took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 43-3 ¼.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Feb. 18 at the Nebraska Tune-Up, their last meet before the MIAA Championships on Feb. 25-27.
