BOLIVAR, Mo. - The UNO women's basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 78-64 win at Southwest Baptist on Saturday at Meyer Sports Center.
UNO improved to 7-17 overall and 4-16 in the MIAA, while dropping the Bearcats to 8-16 overall and 5-15 in the MIAA.
Three Mavs scored in double-figures, as UNO shot a season-high 57.1 percent from the field, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range. The Mavs also drained 16-of-19 free throws (84.2 percent) in the all-around stellar shooting performance.
Trailing 15-8 at the 13:53 mark of the first half, the Mavs bounced out of their recent slump with a 28-9 run spanning the next 10:37. #Heather Pohl# started the barrage with a 3-pointer, then #Jessica Zaruba added one to cut the Bearcat lead to three. Paige Frauendorfer# then stole the ball and went in for a lay-up and Zaruba scored again to give UNO the lead at 18-17 with 10:21 left in the half.
The Bearcats took the lead back on a 3-pointer by Tanis Spani, but #Amanda Woodring# answered with a 3-pointer of her own to put UNO on top to stay for the rest of the game. The Mavs pushed the lead out to 12 twice in the first half, the latter coming on a halftime buzzer-beating basket by Frauendorfer.
In the second half, UNO extended its lead to as many as 20 when Zaruba hit a 3-pointer with 12:32 left to make it 58-38.
Pohl led the Mavs with 19 points, while Nash added 18 points and Zaruba had 15. Frauendofer chipped in eight points and nine rebounds for UNO. Nash hit 12-of-15 free throws to help the Mavs win for the first time since an 87-83 win on Jan. 22 over then-No. 6 Washburn.
UNO closes out conference road play with a 5:30 p.m., game next Wednesday at Missouri Southern.
