Puc Shines in 800 on Day Two of Sevigne Invitation

LINCOLN, Neb. – #Anja Puc# ran the nation's best time in the 800 meters in day two of the Frank Sevigne Invitational hosted by Nebraska. Puc, UNO's record holder in the event both indoors and outdoors, shaved nearly three seconds off the previous top mark in her first running of the event this season.
Puc, running in a special heat of the event against Nebraska and unattached runners, clocked a time of 2:09.52 to win the event. Her lead over other runners will be determined when all other times from the weekend are posted.
Also today, #Kayla Koepke# lowered her season-best time in the 400 meters with a time of 56.75 to finish in sixth place. Former UNO standout Pinar Saka, running unattached, won the event at the Sevigne for the third straight year with a time of 53.08.
In the field, #Heather Minssen# bettered her longest mark in the shot put with a throw of 46-09, nearly four inches better than her previous season best. She has already qualified for the event at the national championships.
Also today, #Maja Mihalinec# finished in the top eight in two different events. She was the top Division II finisher in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.71. She also finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.80.
In other action, UNO student #Katarina Zarudnaya# who is sitting out this season of eligibility but was running unattached, won a special heat of the mile in a sterling time of 4:51.61.
The Mavericks will venture to the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12.
