OMAHA, Neb. – UNO hockey will attempt to draw the largest crowd in school history for the second year in a row when it welcomes Wisconsin to Qwest Center Omaha on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12. The goal of the “Sell Out Wisconsin” promotion is to earn the first sellout of all 15,959 seats at the Qwest Center for Friday's game.
“We had outstanding success with last year's “Sell Out Ohio State” event, so it was only natural that we attempt to break our record again this season,” said #Trev Alberts#, UNO's Director of Athletics. “Friday's game will be a battle of two ranked teams, and we hope fans in Omaha will be on hand to lend their support to the Mavericks and be a part of UNO history at the same time.
“There is no substitute for the energy of a packed house, and it would be a big advantage for our team to play in that atmosphere as it tries to secure home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs.”
The Mavericks will offer a “web only” ticket special for the game through omahasteam.com. Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 1 a.m., the cost of tickets will by $5 plus the hour of the day. Therefore, tickets purchased during the 1 a.m. hour will cost $6 and will increase in price by one dollar in each subsequent hour. The web-only special runs until 7 a.m.
As of the beginning of business on Monday, only 3,990 tickets remained for Friday's game.
Last year, the Mavericks drew the largest crowd ever to see a UNO home game when 13,417 were on hand to see the Mavericks and Ohio State skate to a 5-5 tie. The Mavs won the ensuing shootout in seven rounds. Since that game, the Mavericks have drawn the second- and third-largest crowds in school history including Nov. 19 of this season when 11,181 were on hand to watch the Mavericks play North Dakota.
The Qwest Center is the second-largest college hockey venue in the country and the largest in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Only Ohio State's Value City Arena is larger.
