Hinton Named MIAA Hitter of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. - UNO outfielder #Katelyn Hinton# was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week on Tuesday, following her outstanding weekend at the MIAA Crossover North.
Hinton becomes the third Maverick to be honored by the conference this year. Last week, #Beth Haley was named MIAA Pitcher of the Weeek and Lindsey Slocum# earned MIAA Hitter of the Week.
Hinton helped the Mavericks to a 5-1 record at the MIAA Crossover North with a .563 batting average (9-for-16) and a team-high 1.063 slugging percentage from the lead-off spot. Hinton had a team-high nine hits on the weekend, including two 3-for-3 performances as well as home runs in back-to-back innings on Sunday in a 9-0 five-inning win over Lincoln. For the weekend, she drove in six RBIs and drew a team-best five walks. She also stole five bases in five attempts.
Hinton went 3-for-3 against Southwest Baptist on Friday night with two runs scored, two RBIs and a double. She followed that on Saturday morning with a 2-for-3 game vs. Pittsburg State in which she scored two runs. In the last game of the tournament on Sunday, Hinton went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. She nailed a solo home run in the third inning, then connected on a two-run shot in the fourth. She also had a lead-off double in the first inning and scored the first run for UNO.
For the season, the junior from Lee's Summit, Mo., is batting .342 with five home runs, 17 runs scored and 20 RBIs.
Hinton and the Mavericks host Upper Iowa in a doubleheader at 2 p.m., on Wednesday at Claussen-Westgate Field.
