OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO men's tennis team fell to Southwest Baptist Friday afternoon at Hanscom Tennis Center, 8-1.
The Mavericks dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in MIAA play. The Bearcats are now 7-5 and 3-0 in conference action.
Southwest Baptist won all six singles matches in straight sets and took two of three doubles matches in the win.
Domingos Carissimo, the reigning MIAA player of the week, knocked off #Drew Mercier# in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Jorge Margiotta beat #Matt Frost# at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0. Jorge Palacios prevailed in a competitive 7-6, 6-4 match against #Eric McKnight#. Daniel Cardona beat UNO freshman #Anthony Forcucci#, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 4 singles. Tyler Welch beat #Andrew Lescelius# at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-2. At No. 6 singles, Juan Estepa earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over #John Wrobel#.
Carissimo and Margiotta teamed up to beat Mercier and Frost at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, McKnight and Forcucci scored the lone win of the day for the Mavericks, pulling out a 9-7 win over Palacios and Welch. Cardona and Estepa closed out doubles with an 8-1 win over #Ben Williams and Decature Banker#.
UNO next faces Concordia (Neb.) and Hastings in back-to-back dual matches on Wednesday, April 6, in Seward, Neb.
