OMAHA, Neb. - For the third straight week, UNO softball earned weekly conference recognition, as #Beth Haley and Amber Lutmer# were named the MIAA Pitcher and Hitter of the week, respectively, the MIAA office announced on Tuesday.
Haley earned her second pitching honor in three weeks, while Lutmer became the fourth different Maverick to be honored by the conference this year. Last week, #Katelyn Hinton# was named hitter of the week and the week before, #Lindsey Slocum# earned the honor.
Haley fired the second no-hitter of her career last week in a 3-0 win over Upper Iowa. She then pitched a complete game in a 4-2 win over Fort Hays State, allowing zero unearned runs in that outing as well. In her no-hitter, Haley let just two batters reach base, one by walk and one after a fielding error. Haley didn't allow one ball to get out of the infield, as she struck out 10 batters. In the 4-2 win over Fort Hays State, both of the Lady Tigers' runs were unearned, as Haley scattered eight hits over seven innings and struck out four.
Haley finished the week with a 14 to 2 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 0.00 ERA while allowing opponents to hit at a .157 average. The Highland, Ind., native is 9-3 on the season and has allowed just two unearned runs in her last seven starts combined. Haley possesses a 0.98 ERA through 78.1 innings pitched. She has completed all 11 games started this season and has four shutouts.
Lutmer hit .571 last week with a home run, 6 RBIs, and played a key role late in two of the Mavericks' four wins. She came off the bench to pinch-hit in game two against Upper Iowa and recorded a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center field that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, which UNO won two batters later.
In the weekend sweep vs. Fort Hays State, Lutmer had five of the Mavs' eight RBIs, and she nailed a three-run homer in the sixth inning of game one to give the Mavs the 4-2 lead, which they went on to win by. In game two, she hit an RBI double in the second inning to give the Mavs the 1-0 lead, then she added an RBI single in the fifth inning to make it 4-0. For the week, Lutmer had a 1.143 slugging percentage. She has eight home runs and 27 RBIs this year to lead the Mavericks.
