UNO BATTLES NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE FOR MIAA STANDINGS LEAD
The 21st-ranked UNO softball team (29-5, 6-0) will take its 11-game winning streak to Maryville, Mo., for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday against Northwest Missouri State. The league-leading Mavs are the only unbeaten team left in MIAA conference play, while the Bearcats are in second place with a 7-1 record. Northwest is 18-8 overall. The Mavs are 23-4 all-time against Northwest Missouri State and have won the last 12 meetings dating back to 2006.
UNO HOSTS UCM, SBU IN MIAA HOME OPENERS
The Mavs will have played eight conference games over the course of two weeks by Friday, but finally UNO will host MIAA conference games this weekend, as Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist visit Claussen-Westgate Field for a pair of doubleheaders.
On Friday, UNO and the Central Missouri Jennies square off at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. UNO defeated Central Missouri, 1-0, on March 18 at the MIAA Crossover South. Central Missouri is 20-12 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA, with their only loss coming to Truman on April 2. UNO is 12-3 all-time against the Jennies and has won six in a row in the series.
On Saturday, the Southwest Baptist Bearcats come to Omaha for a 1 p.m. doubleheader as well. The Mavs beat Southwest Baptist, 9-1, in five innings back on March 18 at the MIAA Crossover South. Southwest is 4-14 this year and 2-6 in the MIAA. UNO owns a 10-0 all-time record against the Bearcats.
MAVERICKS ON A ROLL
UNO brings an 11-game winning streak into this week's games, and the Mavs have won 19 of their last 20 overall. Last season, UNO set a school record with 27 straight wins. In the Mavs' recent 11-game burst, they have outscored their opponents 61-17 and have knocked out eight home runs to just one for their opponents. Beth Haley has led the way with a 5-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. Haley has shut out four out of five opponents during the stretch. Molly Feichtinger is hitting .412 during the last 11 games and Amber Lutmer has a team-high 12 RBIs.
HALEY RACKING UP HONORS
The MIAA's reigning pitcher of the year, Beth Haley, is on fire in her senior season with the Mavericks. Two weeks ago, Haley fired a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Upper Iowa. Last week, Haley threw three shutouts in three starts to pick up a 3-0 record and improve to 12-3 on the season. Haley threw 19 innings of shutout softball and has gone five straight games without allowing an earned run. The senior from Highland, Ind., has already twice been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week this year and is seeking the award for the third time this week. She has allowed just two earned runs in her last 66.2 innings pitched.
